Board of Trustees 2019 to 2022

The following school parents were elected in 2019 and will serve a term of 3 years, when there will be further elections. A role on the Board of Trustees is voluntary.

The Mellons Bay School principal and staff value the input and governance of these elected parents.  Please support the board by participating in the school donation and PTA fundraising. The Board meets monthly and meetings are open to the public, with copies of agendas made available.

Board meeting dates are included on the school calendar and online.

Colleen Margison (School Principal)

Colleen joined Mellons Bay School in 2017 and feels it is both a pleasure and a privilege to be the Principal.

Colleen has five children and four grandchildren. Colleen started her teaching career at intermediate level and taught early childhood for 5 years while her children were young. Colleen has a fond memory of coming to Mellons Bay School when she was the Assistant Principal at Somerville Intermediate to talk with the students about going to intermediate where she noticed the community feel of the school.

Colleen began her Masters of Education Leadership at Somerville Intermediate and completed it whilst Principal of Panama Road School. Nine years as Principal at Panama Road
School highlighted the value of community and family involvement in school life and the value of partnerships which is evident and Mellons Bay School.

Jono Fisher

Jonathon Fisher - 

Jono is a father of four young children, three of whom currently attend Mellons Bay School, with his youngest child to follow in her older brothers footsteps in 2021. Already involved in coaching his children's sports team, Jono is excited to contribute to their education, and to children of the wider Mellons Bay community.

Jono is a senior leader at one of New Zealand's largest retailers providing strategic direction and leadership. Outside of work Jono is an keen sports fan, playing cricket and soccer, and watching pretty much everything else.

Moana Paterson
Moana Paterson

Moana has been a teacher at Howick Kindergarten since 2005. Moana has one daughter at Mellons Bay in her fifth year and her eldest is at Howick College.

As a full-time working mother, being part of the Board of Trustees is a great way of staying connected to the school community. Moana believes the children and their families deserve to be in a learning environment that is well resourced and well supported. On a personal level, Moana is a keen advocate of Te Reo in schools. Outside of work and school she enjoys spending time with whanau, outdoors and socialising with friends.

 Mark Steele

Mark Steele

Mark lives in Mellons Bay with his wife Renee and their two children who both currently attend Mellons Bay School. Mark is an Authorised Financial Adviser who provides investment advice and portfolio management services to individuals, trusts and companies.

He has a proud interest in the school as a past pupil himself and like all parents would like to see the school being the best it can be for benefit of the children, parents and staff.

 Matt Ward - (Chairperson)

Matt is a father of three with two children who are currently students at Mellons Bay School.  Matt values a well-rounded education and is keen to ensure that Mellons Bay School is able to continue providing opportunities for all students and teachers to grow and be connected to our community.

Matt is the Chief Financial Officer for NZX listed Oceania Healthcare Limited.  Matt has a BCom, LLB and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. 

Rita Williamson  

Rita Williamson 

Rita is married with four children, two of which are currently at Mellons Bay School. Rita is a local who grew up in the Howick Pakuranga area and loves the area and the community
Rita has a Bachelor of Laws degree and Bachelor of Arts degree and is currently a Solicitor at Wells & Co, located in Howick village.
Rita is passionate about good quality education and ensuring that students are able to make the most of their educational opportunities.

Karyn Bell (Staff Representative)

Karyn is the teacher representative on the Board of Trustees and is the Team Leader of the senior school. She has two children, one at Howick Intermediate and one currently attending Mellons Bay School.

Karyn is an experienced teacher who loves working with students and supporting them to achieve to their full potential. She thoroughly enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues and whanau to ensure that student achievement and well-being are at the centre of all we do.
