SunSmart

In terms one and four, all students must wear the Mellons Bay school wide brimmed hat. If students come to school without a hat they must stay in shaded areas whilst outside, or the library is available during lunchtime as an indoor shade option. We encourage parents to ensure their child wears sun screen prior to coming to school and also provide a small tube in their bag for use at school.  We have sufficient shaded areas but continually assess our shade needs.  In 2013 the school became accredited by the Cancer Society Auckland as a SunSmart school.

School Pool

We are very proud to have our school pool, especially in times, where most schools are closing their pools.  We value swimming as an essential life skill and believe, that learning to swim as a child helps saves lifes.  As well as student use during school hours, the pool is available for private use outside school hours.  This is usually available to our local community from the end of November until March each year, or as advised by the school.  In November 2013 the school installed pool heating.  This will allow the season to be extended.  Exact dates of opening and closing of the pool is determined on an annual basis.  Pool keys can be purchased from the office during the swim season for the small cost (this includes a $10 refundable key bond).  

Hall Hire

The School Hall is available for hire outside school hours.  Please contact the office for further details.
